I know . . . I need to get on here more. I really should be working on homework now . . . oh well!
Let's see . . . what has happened since May 30th? Well, we left Texas on the 31st and headed up to my grandma's house in Cortland, OH. Can I just say that we had a blast but were so glad to come home. It took us quite a while to get through East Texas and into Louisiana. While in Louisiana we had a blowout and had to stop at Wal-Mart to get the tire replaced, actually we replaced 3 of the tires. Needless to say it took forever for them to change the tires and now I officially never want to go to Louisiana ever again!
While in Mississippi we stopped at a petrified forest that wasn't as great as others I have seen but it was great for Karl who had never been to one before. In Alabama we stayed in Montgomery and drove by the governor's mansion, the white house of the confederacy, and went to a museum dedicated to Rosa Parks. It was amazing how much history is still in this city and all the beautiful homes, as well. The Rosa Parks museum was really good, too, and I feel I learned so much from that experience. Plus we got to use a parking meter. That was fun! :) Yeah, yeah, we're dorks!
In Georgia we stopped at the world's largest aquarium and marveled as sharks and other neat fish swam over our heads in this tunnel thing. We also got to see river otters up close, beluga whales, penguins, and we got to touch sting rays and little sharks. It was a really neat experience. We would LOVE to go there again!
On the way up from there it wasn't that exciting. While in Ohio at Grandma's, however, we had a blast. We played lots of games with grandma, went to Amish Country and ate at Mary Yoders, found some neat antiques, and hit in the basement from tornadoes. Yeah . . . tornadoes. While we were there we had three warnings, one early in the morning. :( While we were there in a county above Grandma's there was actually a lot of damage to homes and some deaths, as well. They were some pretty rough storms.
On our way back home, we went through Ohio State University and ended up staying the night in Nashville, TN. We could not find a hotel anywhere. We had to go into town to find a room and it happened to be a double but we didn't care. Come to find out, the CMAs were happening that night . . . go figure, right? As we tried leaving town the next morning we tried to to go a lot of places that were either closed down due the flood they had a few months ago or were too busy with tourists. After about 3 hours of driving through this town (yeah that's how busy it was) we were finally on the road again. On our way through Arkansas there was a huge storm that we just happened to be driving right in the middle of - the scariest moment of my life. That storm ended up flooding a local campground and many people drowned. I felt like catastrophe was following us the whole way home. We finally got home late Friday night and we were glad! Oh, and the whole way there and back people were doing construction. Talk about frustrating!
While on the trip my graduate courses started so when we got back I had to kick it into gear to catch up. I think I am just now caught up . . . we'll see how long it lasts. I am working with a girl that I taught last year doing a case study for one of my classes. This happens once a week and I have 5 more weeks to go.
So far this summer I have taken 3 courses through our local region center and I have learned so much from them and, not to mention, have gotten free books! :) I went to San Antonio last week for a CSCOPE conference for school which was alright, I guess. The main speaker was amazing - Ron Clark. There is a movie out about the amazing things he has done for education and he was such an amazing role model for teachers to look up to. He has some books out that I am looking into getting at the library and reading. Such an interesting perspective on teaching.
Other than that, I've just been doing homework. Seriously! Oh, and we built a dog house for Kiana and her future sister . . . whenever that happens, anyway. We are also in the middle of remodeling our hall closet. It is coming along great. It is just slow work because of the modifications we are having to make due to the building of our home. It's amazing what a level will do . . . just saying! :)
I am expecting my new phone today which I am super excited about! I will actually have a REAL phone again. :)
As for the future, I have my case study tomorrow, a wedding this weekend, birthday parties the next two weeks, and then before you know it will be time to go back to school. I know, crazy right? I am not hoping for it to come soon. I am liking the current ebb and flow of summer.
Later gator!
