Life as we Know it

Life as we know it has been crazy these days, to say the least!

For one, I cannot believe that the second 6 weeks at school is just about to finish up (this Friday!). It seems like yesterday it was still summer time and I was frantically trying to get things ready for the school year - which I can still say I feel like 2 6 weeks into the school year! My kids are doing so great - such a great group of kiddos and parents! Having such great students and parents makes each day a great day, for sure!

Update on Graduate School: I am OFFICIALLY graduating on December 16th at 4 pm! I put my order for my cap, gown, & HOOD!!! in the mail today and it should be here soon. Out of my two classes I only have 2 more assignments in the one class and then several in the other, but I can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel! Looking back and reflecting over the past 2.5 years I can't believe I'm finishing up already. I remember the summer that we got married and how both Karl and I started our Masters and both of us looking ahead and feeling so overwhelmed with it all. Looking back I feel so accomplished - I was able to do school, teaching, and marriage all at once - I know that it has been really hard at times and both Karl and I have sacrificed things to get to this point but we are definitely stronger because of it! If you are wondering if I will be going on for more schooling any time soon - the answer is . . . NO! I am so done with being a "student" right now. Perhaps in the future, I would like to go ahead and work towards the big ole Doc, but for now I am content with my hood!

Update on Financial Peace: We are still slowly chipping away at our debt. We haven't had any pay offs lately and haven't gotten to cut up any cards yet, but it does feel good knowing that we are working toward a common goal. I was playing with the numbers a few weeks ago and we figure that if we both get a part-time job next year (after the 1st) that we would be able to pay off 90% of our debt and be that much closer to financial peace. We can do it! Our biggest ache is our student loans. Because of our debt I am working toward creating a night for Kindergarten and First Grade parents to show them how if they plan ahead now, they can save up for college and remove much more of the burden that faces many individuals graduating college. I think that this will save so many kids from debt. Also, we found out that my loans which have been in deferment do pick back up in January. Stink! Oh well, we can do it!

Update on Life: Well, some pretty exciting things have been happening around here. Starting this past Thursday Karl and I have been house hunting. Well no, not house hunting for us but for . . . my mom and step-dad! They found out about a week ago (for sure) that they are going to be moving to San Angelo for Tate's job. Oh and did I mention that they will be here before the end of the year (with Tate starting work on the 5th of December!). So Karl and I have been going around with our realtor, Teri Jackson, and looking at houses for my parents - makes me appreciate having our house. So far we have looked at 8 houses and there are still more on the horizon. We are actually going out again this afternoon to look at some more homes.

I am super excited about their move. Mom and Tate will drive down here on the 1st of December with some of their things, including their RV. Once they get here they will sign off on their house and get Tate settled. Amanda has a flight going to their house in California on the 11th. Mom will fly back up to California some time before Amanda gets there. Then Karl and I will fly up there on the 20th, just after my graduation, as will Tate. All 5 of us will celebrate Christmas at their house in California. Amanda, Karl and I will return to Texas on the 27th and the moving trucks will be at their house that afternoon. It is so crazy how this is all working out but I am so excited!

Well I think that is all for now - I need to go hop in the shower and start picking the house up and start laundry. Adios!

If this happens one more time . . .

Anyone know a good cell phone service provider? This is the second time that we worked with someone at AT&T and I am about ready to switch providers. We went in there today to get my phone moved to Karl's plan, which we had to get a form filled out by my mom (well, kinda :), it helps when I can sign like mom; it's not like I didn't have her permission) in order to do so. We walked in and talked to this guy, gave him the form, and we thought that he understodd what we needed to be done and he just started going. We got to the point where I would pick out a phone and he started getting stuff ready and I re-asked him, after he wanted to know what number I wanted to use for it, if my phone was now on Karl's plan and he just went crazy on us. Basically he said that we never told him that that is what we wanted. He was very rude, basically saying that it was our fault that he did all this work for nothing. It was very disheartening and I really wanted to tell him to forge...

New Journey . . . Diamond Club

What does it take to make a diamond? Any ideas? According to Wikipedia, you know the source for all things, a diamond is "formed at high temperature[s] and pressure". Karl and I are excited to announce that we will be taking part in journey. A journey that will, hopefully, push us to Diamond. It will take a lot of work but we are excited for this opportunity for our team. What is Diamond Club? Why is this so exciting? Maybe this video will explain it better. Diamond Club creates a great opportunity for EVERYONE! It allows Karl and I to travel to areas that want to grow and also allows for new members to receive additional products with their enrollment and subsequent LRP orders. Free stuff??? Yes, please!!! It really is a great opportunity for everyone on our team. We are looking forward to the immense growth that will happen because of this wonderful opportunity. So you may be asking, how do I get involved? What does this look like exactly? Basically we...

Writer's Corner Number 8

Typed from written Journal Entry: I thought I’d change it up a bit and try writing in journal form tonight. I am also curious to see the difference in length of writing for both writing formats. Dr. Semingson suggested incorporating pictures into our journal writings/posts. I don’t have any pics from growing up – they are all at my dad’s house in Michigan – but I can start adding new pics from Alaska, especially when it comes time to talk about our honeymoon adventures there. Today I want to start by talking about earthquakes. I want to preface this “talk” with a story from when I moved to Texas. Not long into the start of my 7th grade year we practice emergency drills. I remember one of my teachers talking about what to do in case of an emergency: crouch down with your head near a wall and cover your head. I remember thinking that getting near a wall wouldn’t be the safest thing in the world but I didn’t argue – I didn’t know what that emergency drill was for. Now that I’m olde...
