Turkey Time She Comes!

Let's finish up those Thankfuls!

13) I am thankful that Karl and I are on the same page about being Financially at Peace. As some of you know this summer Karl and I took Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace course and set out a plan to pay off our students loans, mortgage, and then start saving for our future. At first it was amazing because we paid off two cards within a month and cut those puppies up - it felt so good. Now we are 4-months in and we've been pretty lackadaisical about sticking to writing all our spending down, but thankfully we still have not gone over our budgeted amounts. Now that we don't have any more of my school to pay for hopefully we will start seeing more than what we have been.

14) I am thankful for the opportunity to work. So many people out there, especially teachers, are out trying to find work and are told there is none. I am so very thankful that I have been blessed with a job that I truly love and where I want to come to work to. I am thankful for co-workers that lift me up and whom I can trust in to work together as a team - it feels so good!

15) I am thankful for technology and all the possibilities it offers. Nerdy? Maybe - but it is so true! There are so many things that we have access to that just 15 years ago, when I was a little brat we didn't have. It is amazing how different this generation is from mine. Crazy!

16) This may be silly but I am thankful that I graduate from Graduate school in just 1 month! Looking back it's like a dream. I remember the summer that I started my Grad work - just married, small paychecks, thinking how are we going to make it through this! Well, we did! Booyah! :) To anyone out there who's contemplating the working while studying route - you can do it! It is hard, but doable.

17) I am thankful for . . . Harry Potter! What?!? What did she say? Nerd - again! I know, you don't have to tell me, I have embraced the nerd side of me. It's true, though. I am so thankful for the Harry Potter series because it has helped me to tap into my creative side again and makes me feel like a kid again every time I read from them. Random, but true. Love it!

18) I am thankful for my students! Today was their Thanksgiving performance and they were so adorable and great! I absolutely love having the opportunity to be able to spend my days with 6 & 7 year olds and just experiencing life with them. They are so excited about the littlest things and I genuinely feel like I know them. It is such a blessing to be their teacher.

19) I am thankful that my mom and step-dad are officially moving here at the end of December. I am thankful that I got to be a part of their house-selecting experience and that they were able to find something while they came down this weekend. Hello cat-sitting! :)

20) I am thankful to have a car that runs! Just saying - there are just some things that you take for granted. My car is still not working so I have been able to drive Karl's car (which is officially ours now!) while he has been driving his Dad's truck that he so graciously let us borrow. I am just thankful that I have a vehicle that takes me from point A to point B - not saying that our car is crappy, just saying that I am thankful that it runs! :)

21) I am thankful for new opportunities for our future! I am thankful that I have a soul mate that believes in me and I in him and that I can see myself being happy with for the rest of my life. I am thankful that God has given us many opportunities to better ourselves and just look forward to what the future will bring!

22) I am thankful that my school gives us three days off from the normal school week to be with our families for Thanksgiving. I am totally looking forward to just getting to hang out with family. :)

23) On that note, I am thankful that I get to spend Thanksgiving break with family. I am looking forward to the drive to New Mexico and getting to spend the time with my awesome in-laws. Looking forward to good laughs, good times, and good food, to be sure!

Just an idea that I thought about for that one day when Karl and I have children. I want to do a thankful book each year - I have my students do them for Extra Credit and they are so sweet! Basically the premise is to teach them about being thankful and to realize that blessings that they have but I think they are just the sweetest things that help you get to know the heart of your child. Just an idea . . .

Update on life: Hmm . . . let's see. We've both just been working. We had been looking at homes for my parents and now that they have found one and had their bid accepted, it's been nice having some free time. And in that free time I seem to be reading, you guessed it, Harry Potter. I challenged my kids to read at least one book over the Thanksgiving Break. If they do they get 2 stickers for their book chart. That challenge I put on myself, as well. If I don't finish this Harry Potter book that I am reading, then the kids get 10-minutes extra at recess. They were so excited about that. I just have 120 pages left to read, which I should be able to kick out on our way up to NM today pretty easy. I hate busting their bubbles the day we get back but I want them to see how much you can read if you practice. I also want to try and finish the second book to the Harry Potter series as well for that extra UMPH! But, we'll see what happens. I just really want to finish the first one for sure.

Speaking of the trip, I need to get packing. Until next time, adios!

If this happens one more time . . .

Anyone know a good cell phone service provider? This is the second time that we worked with someone at AT&T and I am about ready to switch providers. We went in there today to get my phone moved to Karl's plan, which we had to get a form filled out by my mom (well, kinda :), it helps when I can sign like mom; it's not like I didn't have her permission) in order to do so. We walked in and talked to this guy, gave him the form, and we thought that he understodd what we needed to be done and he just started going. We got to the point where I would pick out a phone and he started getting stuff ready and I re-asked him, after he wanted to know what number I wanted to use for it, if my phone was now on Karl's plan and he just went crazy on us. Basically he said that we never told him that that is what we wanted. He was very rude, basically saying that it was our fault that he did all this work for nothing. It was very disheartening and I really wanted to tell him to forge...

New Journey . . . Diamond Club

What does it take to make a diamond? Any ideas? According to Wikipedia, you know the source for all things, a diamond is "formed at high temperature[s] and pressure". Karl and I are excited to announce that we will be taking part in journey. A journey that will, hopefully, push us to Diamond. It will take a lot of work but we are excited for this opportunity for our team. What is Diamond Club? Why is this so exciting? Maybe this video will explain it better. Diamond Club creates a great opportunity for EVERYONE! It allows Karl and I to travel to areas that want to grow and also allows for new members to receive additional products with their enrollment and subsequent LRP orders. Free stuff??? Yes, please!!! It really is a great opportunity for everyone on our team. We are looking forward to the immense growth that will happen because of this wonderful opportunity. So you may be asking, how do I get involved? What does this look like exactly? Basically we...

Writer's Corner Number 8

Typed from written Journal Entry: I thought I’d change it up a bit and try writing in journal form tonight. I am also curious to see the difference in length of writing for both writing formats. Dr. Semingson suggested incorporating pictures into our journal writings/posts. I don’t have any pics from growing up – they are all at my dad’s house in Michigan – but I can start adding new pics from Alaska, especially when it comes time to talk about our honeymoon adventures there. Today I want to start by talking about earthquakes. I want to preface this “talk” with a story from when I moved to Texas. Not long into the start of my 7th grade year we practice emergency drills. I remember one of my teachers talking about what to do in case of an emergency: crouch down with your head near a wall and cover your head. I remember thinking that getting near a wall wouldn’t be the safest thing in the world but I didn’t argue – I didn’t know what that emergency drill was for. Now that I’m olde...
